10 Amazing Works Of Art

Art is one of the many things that I am passionate about. I love to go to museums whenever I get the chance. I have studied art since I was a teenager. My love of art started with my very first AP Art class with one of my favorite teachers. Without further ado here is my top 10 favorite works of art.

Awesome Works of Art
Awesome Works of Art
  1. Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh is one of my top ten favorites because it shows us a glimpse into his mind while he was in an asylum. He suffered from many mental health problems and tended to paint much darker paintings during his lows. You can view the painting and read more about it Here.
  2. Water Lilies by Claude Monet is another well known piece of art that I love. The colors and the way he paints just leaves me in awe. If you want to see the painting and read more Click here.
  3. The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo is another favorite of mine. It is breathtaking and I hope to see it one day in person in the Sistene Chapel. The scene features both Adam and God and is just beautiful. You can see it and read more Here.
  4. Metamorphosis by Christian Schloe speaks to me in a calming sense. I think it symbolizes the changes that we go through in life. Check it out Here and tell me what you think.
  5. The Scream by Edvard Munch is another great work of art. I love this painting for my own personal reaaons. First of all I always feel like in life there are times when you want to scream just to let off some steam or out of simple frustration. Check out more information and to view it Here.

6. Napoleon Crossing the Alps by Jacques-Louis David is an amazing work of art. I love the detail and all the colors. I think the paininting truly represents the era in which Napoleon lived. Read about it Here.

7. The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali is in my top ten for a reason. I love this interpretation of time. I take this painting as that time is slipping away. Make the most of the time you have. Check it out Here and tell me what you think.

8. The Storm of the Sea of Galilee by Rembrandt is yet another amazing painting. The tumultuous sea is painted perfectly. Ive always thought that this does show a storm but that it could represent the storms in our lives. Will we let them overtake us or sink our ship? Or will we persevere? Check it out Here.

9. The Thinker by Auguste Rodin is one of the two favorite sculptures I have. I think it is a nice interpretation of what a thinker’s expression should show. You can see the details in the expression on his face. Check it out Here.

10. And finally my absolute favorite work of art is Unique Forms of Continuity in Space by Umberto Boccioni. This sculpture shows the strength of the runners in that era. The wings represent speed. What do you think? See it Here.

All of these are in my top ten for their uniqueness and beautiful states. I have always been an avid art enthusiast. Feel free to check these out and lwt me know which is your favorite.

Budget 101

Here at The Tabby World we like to follow a budget. This is a great way to save money. When you know where your money is going, you can easily plan for the future.

Budget 101
Budget 101

Free Budget Worksheet!

We started budgeting a few years ago when we were in major financial turmoil. We were on the brink of losing both vehicles and the home we had been purchasing. That’s when I started researching how to set up a budget.

After many hours of researching I found an article that helped me come up with my own plan. I had discovered the best way to plan the budget and how to save money for future economic hardships.

Senator Elizabeth Warren suggested to use a 50/20/30 rule (Whiteside, 2016). This breaks down to 50% of the income spent on needs, 20% on savings, and 30% on wants (Whiteside, 2016). When you first start budgeting this might not be the perfect fit for you.

You will never find out and understand your budget until you write it down so you can physically see where your money is going. I cannot stress this enough. Therefore I have created a worksheet to do our budget.

You can get your free copy of my Budget 101 Worksheet. You can also find it on the resources page at any time. So download your free copy and get started immediately.

What I like about this worksheet is that it’s easy to fill out. You just need to sit down and do it. I promise you will not regret it. Below is the link to the worksheet again.

Household Budget

As you can see there are four columns for you to fill out. The first is the Monthly Estimate column. You will need to write in the Estimates for each of your expenses. These are just estimates. You will them fill in the Actual Expenses as you get the invoices. For example, I estimate my income at $2000 every month. The actual is actually higher at $2215. Therefore I then fill in the third column with the difference which is +$215. This means that we had an extra income of $215. I continue to fill out the worksheet and at the end I can see if I have unalloted money. This money should be put in either savings or used to pay off debts.

I myself balance out the budget pretty well because I’ve been doing this since 2016. I know that our expenses are actually higher than the 50% that is suggested. Ours is actually 59%. So with that being said. I adjust what I would apend on entertainment to 11% of the income instead of the suggested 20%. I never adjust savings unless it is to increase the percentage due to an increase in income.

One thing you have to underatand is that we are on a tight budget because I cannot work due to my back injury. I have no money coming in currently. So we are surviving on my husbands income alone. This is why budgeting is extremely important for our family.

Aa you can see, the worksheet is easy to fill out. Just understanding where to go from that point is the hard part. You will find out where your income is going. Then you can adjust your spending to do whatever you need to do.

My top suggestion is to cut out the extra that you don’t need if your income doesn’t cover your needs. Also rathole into savings whenever you can because you never know when something is going to come up. Always include your spouse too. You both need to be on the same page or it won’t work.

Do you use a budget to stay on track?

DIY DVD Storage
DIY DVD Storage

As I mentioned in an earlier post Here:

I have been working on a DVD storage project. Well the good news is that I think I’m done. I finally finished this storage project yesterday afternoon. Sorry it took as long as it did but I’ve been in a fibromyalgia flare up for almost two weeks so my pain level is very high.

So without further ado…. Here is what it looked like in the beginning.

DIY DVD Storage
DIY DVD Storage

Yes. The picture is upside down. Just bear with me. My phone would not let me turn it the right way. So I’m just going to roll with it.

These were just cheap tubs that have attached lids as you can see in the picture. James cut two boards that fit inside for each one and then simply screwed the tubs through the boards into the studs.

First I took black scrapbook paper and made a border around the whole outside perimeter of the tubs. See the picture below.

Black Frame Perimeter
Black Frame Perimeter

I attached the scrapbook paper with 3M Spray Adhesive.

It works extremely well. Which this meant that even though I wore gloves I ended up with the adhesive on my skin. You have to understand that I’m a clutz so of course I had adhesive on my hands and partially on my arms. No worries though. It comes off easily when you wash with hot water and soap.

Next I started using printed scrapbook paper to make rows. I wanted to have some designs instead of just one solid color. So I used a pad that was similar to this one on Amazon posted below.

I cut each page in half so my prints wouldn’t be huge blocks. Then I just kept spraying and applying until I was finished. I did do some cuts so they were even with the edge of the doors.

Cut Sides

I just kept layering rows to make some what of a quilt pattern. It is not perfect cuts as you can see by my picture.

Perfectly Imperfect

This has been a very fun project but has been a little time consuming. The whole project took me approximately two hours. And now here is the completed product!

DIY DVD Storage

Oh geez! Now it posted the picture sideways. Again, I am not perfect. You can also see my DIY kitty hammocks on the bottom.

The kitties are still getting used to the hammocks but they do like them also. I just decided to utilize the unused space.

As you can see, this was a fun and very useful project. We now have more storage for our DVD collection and it is no longer an eyesore. I hope this inspires you.

What do you use to keep your pets out of your DVDs?

Life Lesson: Don’t Let Life Get You Down

This life lesson is extremely important for everyone. First of all I want to tell you a little about myself so you can better understand why I am passionate about positivity.

Find Your Happiness
Find Your Happiness

I have experienced many things in my life, some good and some bad. A little of my history goes a long way. In my life I have dealt with depression as I am Bipolar. I have struggled with it since about the age of 13 after I was raped. Since then many things have happened which include losing many family members my Dad being one of them, which I was very close to. Some of these deaths were extremely hard to handle where others were expected.

I grew up in a home with both parents. They fought pretty often. It was rough at times because they would go days without speaking to each other and they didn’t even sleep in the same bed. I think it was partially due to dad’s snoring and partially from the contempt for one another.

My depression was extremely bad throughout my teen years. So bad that I even attempted suicide more than once. Obviously I failed because I am here today. As I write this I am struggling. It is very hard to talk about my past.

Find Your Happiness
Find Your Happiness

The Present

I am now married and have been for 13 wonderful years. My husband is my primary support system. June 2017 I hit another hiccup in life. I suffered a back injury while at work. Life has been very hard since this happened. I actually just had a lumbar fusion with a bone graft and a discectomy June 1st, 2018.

First the accident changed my life and it felt like everything I had worked for was taken from me. I ended up quitting my job and losing my livelihood. I was not allowed to lift over 10 pounds per doctor’s orders. Th3w injury completely changed my life. This makes you more dependent on everyone. So needless to say I rely on my husband for many things.

After the surgery this has become even more strenuous. I’m not allowed to lift anything over a gallon of milk which is approximately eight pounds. I also cannot do anything without wearing a brace that restricts me from bending and twisting. I’m having to relearn how to do everything.

With all of this happening I started seeing a psychologist and a counselor to help deal with all of this. Life is very hard to handle at times. I find myself getting extremely frustrating because I am so dependent.  Therefore I now received the diagnosis that I have PTSD.

The PTSD is not only from the back injury but also spurs from the past. For example, losing my Dad and getting raped added to this. It’s not like it just came on overnight. It is a summation of having a tumultuous life.

Max lounging in his hammock
Max lounging in his hammock.

I still have a beautiful and fulfilling life. My smile many times is due to these amazing babies that I have. When life gets me down I can always love on the kitties and dogs and it instantly makes me feel better.

Thoughts On Life

I do not regret my life and as it is currently. I refuse to give in to the depression that could swallow me whole. Instead I am choosing to stay positive. I am not saying that I dont get blue at times. It’s all in how you handle situations that are hard.

You determine your reaction. All you need to take away from this post is this: Don’t let life beat you down. You can always find the positive in every situation. You can always smile. You can always persevere.

Always take life one day at a time. Know that you are loved dearly, even when it doesn’t feel like it. When you are down, fake it until you make it. Put on a smile and it might just turn into a real one. Try to see the positive in every situation. What I always say when something doesnt go the way I feel it should is “oh well, something better is meant to come.” And guess what. It always does.

You determine your happiness. Don’t let your environment or situations out of your control determine how you feel. Take it all in and find the positive.

What do you do to keep your depression at bay? What is your life motto? Do you choose positivity or are you a negative Nelly? Tell me what you think.

What’s Your Personality?

Learning is very important to me. Therefore, I took a free test to find out what my personality is. You can take a free test also by clicking FREE PERSONALITY TEST.  I took mine last night and to no surprise I am ESTP which is an Entrepreneur. For that reason this is no shock to me. As my personal life and business are very driven.

Personality Types

There are 16 different personalities broken into four categories.

  1. Analysts :Architect (INTJ), Logician (INTP), Commander (ENTJ), Debater (ENTP)
  2. Diplomats: Advocate (INFJ), Mediator (INFP), Protagonist (ENFJ), Campaigner (ENFP)
  3. Sentinels: Logistician (ISTJ), Defender (ISFJ), Executive (ESTJ), Consul (ESFJ)
  4. Explorers: Virtuoso (ISTP), Adventurer (ISFP), Entrepreneur (ESTP), Entertainer (ESFP).

When you break these groups down even further you can learn so much about different personalities. Take mine for example.

What's Your Personality
What’s Your Personality

My personality is  Entreprenuer. This does fit me very well. I am very outgoing. I love to take risks. I’ve always been sociable and a true extrovert.. I can talk to anyone just about anything. Therefore almost every topic is open. These can also get me into trouble very easily. So these can all be viewed as weaknesses also.

Being a risktaker is part of why I am here today blogging to you about my life. I love to put myself out there for the world to see. I am a learner at heart and I love to keep my mind going.

Characteristics of Personalities

The following information was found on 16personalities.com:

What’s Your Personality

According to careerplanner.com there are only 4.3% of the population that are entrepreneurs (N.D.). I fall in this small percentage of people. To me that is amazing.

Furthermore, I have learned that I am more of a doer than a planner. This is so true in my nature. I am a natural group leader. So I love to lead and I handle pressure very well.

Why Learning About My Personality Is Important

As I mentioned earlier, I absolutely love learning. By learning about my personality I can identify my strengths and weaknesses. I know that one of my weaknesses is being very impatient.

Being a risktaker can also lead to trouble. I am also very stubborn by nature. I get into argumenta very easily. It can put a train on my marriage, but luckily my huaband is very underatanding.

Impatience is one of my major flaws. For instance, I cannot stand training slow people. Some people just dont catch on to things at my speed and it irritates me. This is the one flaw I need to improve on.

Finding out your personality can help you grow as a person. I now know more of my weaknesses and I can work on them. Getting to know yourself in life can help you build better relationships and advance your career quicker.

What personality type are you? Does it fit you well?

5 Cheap Summer Date Night Ideas

5 Date Night Ideas
5 Date Night Ideas

If you are anything like me and James, you like saving money. One easy way to cut spending is to save on entertainment for date night. I have come up with five easy ways to save on date night.

  1. Cook Together- I know what you are thinking, but this is cooking with a twist. Stay in together and cook a whole meal together. You can make it into a fun competition. For instance you cook the entree and he cooks the sides. Then you make the dessert together. At the end of the meal you two rate each other and give nice criticism. I know it sounds cheesy but whoever wins doesn’t have to do the dishes. This can also be as simple as actually cooking the meal together. It can create some awesome intimacy between you two.
  2. Go for a picnic- pack3a light meal with a nice blanket and find a secluded location for your meal. Just sit, talk and enjoy each other. Make a point to wear something nice but comfortable. This is instant bonding and relaxation.
  3. Movie night-instead of going to the theatre just stay in and watch movies you already own, Netflix and chill, or even rent new movies. Its a cheap date but can again allow you to bond and relax together.
  4. Do something outdoors- whether you go for a hike together or go fishing it is going to be a fun time. Shoot for making memories not spending money. How fun is it to just hang out together and talk. Believe me, nothing is better than spending quality time together.
  5. Eat cheap and go out for a walk- take a nice stroll on a beach or just a pretty area. Somewhere new for you two to explore would be a lot of fun. Ask each other questions  and really get to know  each other again.
Summer Date Ideas
Summer Date Ideas

Know matter how simple the date is, the companionship with your date is the most important thing. James and I have had many date nights where all we did was eat Taco Bell Dollar Menu and watch a movie, or eat and go shopping for our home.

We’ve even went simpler than that and explored Lowes together. If you are just starting out the Lowes thing might not be an option, but for us that have been married for a while it can really be an exciting trip. We talk about what we want to do with our home. It allows us to connect and dream together about what we want in life. It’s our way of exploring the other’s heart.

Whatever you choose to do together, leave the phones alone and truly reconnect with one another. Spend time together that is precious, not costly.

What is your favorite out of the five ideas I listed? What is your best go to date night idea?

15 Must Haves For Your Camping Trip
15 Must Haves For Your Camping Trip

Camping is a very fun activity for families, spouses, or even friends. There are some items that you should have for every camping trip.

Basic Camping Essentials

  1. Shelter- You will need a tent when camping for protection from bugs and the elements depending on what time of year you will be camping. I cannot stress this enough. You might want to rough it with just a sleeping bag. I don’t suggest this because you will more than likely regret it in one way or another.
  2. Bedding- You may opt for just a sheet, sleeping bag or blanket depending on if it is summer or winter. The choice is yours, but always prepare for the worst. It might be nice when you head out but you never know when mother nature could turn on you and drop 20 degrees.
  3. A Way To Cook- You will want to bring a way to start a fire to heat food. We opt for a camping stove with propane bottles, where you might like a grill with charcoal or even cooking over an open campfire.
  4. Toilet Paper- It is inevitable; you will need to go to the bathroom! Even if you are paying for a campsite and have access to a port-a-potty, they might not be furnished.
  5. Toiletries- You will need your basics to take a shower. Again, you might be renting a campsite or roughing it in the woods. The point is you will need to bathe. It might be in a lake or river, but you will still need soap.
  6. Flip-Flops Or Water Shoes- Always bring these if you will be showering in a public place. You can also use them if you are bathing in a river or lake. They protect your feet from harm of sharp objects such as rocks or broken glass; and also from possible viruses from other people’s nasty feet. Take the warning seriously! Do you want someone else’s athlete’s foot? No, I didnt think so.
  7. Sunscreen- It doesnt matter if you usually use it or not. You will be in the sun a lot so proect yourself. Skin cancer is a big deal. You don’t want to regret it later when you have a horrible sunburn.
  8. Coolers/Ice Chests- You will need to be able to safely store your food from heat and also bugs. It goes without saying this is an essential.
  9. Trash Bags- You will need somewhere to dispose of your man-made trash. You do not want to pollute or trash the environment. Please be responsible and don’t trash your campsite .
  10. Utensils-You will need to be able to prepare and eat the food you make. I take disposable utensils and also a knife, spatula, and large spoon.
  11. Paper Plates- Again you will need to be able to eat on a clean surface. These are disposable so they are easy to use. Believe me, you don’t want to have to wash any more dishes than you have to.
  12. Frying Pan And A Pot- You will need to be able to cook so of course you need something to cook in. It just depends on what you are preparing.
  13. Dish Soap- You will need to be able to wash whatever you cook in and also this doubles for a great hand cleaner for you.
  14. Food- You will need food for sustenance of course. Please don’t expect to be able to catch your food. Lol, always plan for worst case scenario.
  15. Drinking water- You need fresh water to be healthy. Don’t think it’s ok to just heat water you find. Unless you are trained you can easily make yourself sick.

A few other items to bring can include: fishing poles, bathing suits, games, and many more. It just depends on what you are planning to do.

Always be prepared for the worst. If you prep how I do you will be able to camp in somewhat of a comfortable environment. I take all of the above and then extra. Thats just how I am.

Top 15 Pantry Staples Everyone Needs

15 Items You Need In Your Kitchen Now
15 Items You Need In Your Kitchen Now

First of all I have to say I am not the cook in the family; James, my husband, is. I do the grocery shopping though. I know the basic staples he needs to cook great meals.

Therefore here is my top 15 pantry staples everyone should have in their kitchen.

The Basics

  1. The Spices-You should always have salt, pepper, cinnamon, garlic powder, oregano, rosemary, and chili powder. You can make almost anything taste good with one or more of these flavor packing seasonings.  Our most used item besides salt and pepper is garlic. We are a garlic loving family. It is in pretty much on anything we eat other than desserts of course.
  2. Pasta & Rice-Always keep a small variety of pasta for those last minutes meals. It’s extremely easy to throw together a great pasta dish in minutes. We typically keep spaghetti, penne, and egg noodles on hand. Rice is a necessity too because you can easily make a meal with it also. For instance, are you making stir fry or maybe even a side dish? Boom! Rice works for this.
  3. Baking Ingredients-Keep on hand: flour, baking powder, baking soda, cornmeal, and sugar. You can make a simple dessert like peach cobbler with these and a big can of peaches in a pinch. Of course you need flour for almost any kind of breading too.

4. DairyMilk, Butter, and Cheese are must haves. You should always have at the minimum milk, parmesan cheese, and one other kind of cheese at your disposal. So many recipes call for both milk and mozzarella or cheddar. So I would pick one or both of the cheeses. Butter is an easy essential. You know why butter is important.

5. Eggs-You will need to keep eggs for a few simple reasons. You never know when you will need them for breading, baking, or even making a simple omelette.

6. Meat-Bacon, ground beef, and chicken are essential to have in your freezer. Bacon passes as a nice seasoning for many dishes also. Beef or chicken are your main two sources of protein in most main dishes.

7. Bread-I say to keep bread in the freezer so it will always be fresh. Keep a French loaf in your freezer so you can always pull out the loaf and make garlic bread as a filler for many dishes.

8. Ketchup, mayonnaise, & mustard-Besides using them as sandwich condiments, these can be used in a marinade or topping before baking.

9. Jelly-This can be used as a glaze or even in a baking recipe for a sweet treat.

Check out this great glaze recipe here.

Pantry Items

10. Beans-These are needed as a filler for many dishes or they can be used by themselves as a side dish.

11. Canned Tomato Sauce or Spaghetti Sauce-You can easily throw a pasta dish together with sauce, pasta, and meat. Then just season with whatever your heart desires and you have an instant meal.

12. Peanut Butter-You can easily use PB in a sandwich, but if you want a sweet treat this can come in handy for baking cookies.

13. Tortillas-Whether you want to make tacos, enchilladas, or a chicken wrap, you will need tortillas. I keep corn tortillas in our pantry because our favorite go to meal is tacos.

14. Old Fashioned Oats-You can use oats as a filler in meatloaf or as a breading for meat. You can also just make a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, simple and quick.

15. In Season Produce-I say in season produce because it is at the peak of freshness and also less expensive. Just throw together a great salad as a main or side dish. Yummy!

No matter what you are craving, these are the staples you will need for almost any dish. What is your favorite go to meal? What else do you keep on hand?

Why You Have To Buy Scentsy’s Laundry Love Bundle

First I have to tell you that I was a Scentsy Independent Consultant up until March. I still love the company, but with the back injury I just had to give it up. I could no longer do shows or deliveries due to restrictions from the injury.

With that being said, I want to share with you my favorite laundry products ever! I was was a complete skeptic when I was told about the laundry products that Scentsy had to offer. I thought they were way overpriced for the size of the laundry liquid (detergent).

Self Proclaimed Cheapskate

We all want to save money right?  So why spend extra on a laundry soap. Let me tell you about the Bundle Cost. Customers can buy The Laundry Love Bundle for $50 from the link below.

You can check it out for yourself.

The Product

The bundle includes 1 Laundry Liquid (detergent), 1 tub of washer whiffs, and 2 packages of dryer disks.

The dryer disks replace your dryer sheets. The disks do everything that your dryer sheets do, only they last much longer. Each disk lasts approximately 15 loads.

Now we started buying the Washer Whiffs first because my sister had told me how she loved them. The Washer Whiffs are a scent booster for your laundry.

From Skeptic To Believer

We were amazed at the scent after using the Washer Whiffs for the first time. The scent was nice and strong. When I put the laundry up in the closet and drawers it made our whole bedroom smell like fresh laundry. It was amazing to me that these little crystals make so much scent.

After trying these Washer Whiffs, our laundry stayed smelling fresh for weeks. We were sold on trying the whole shebang then.

I purchased the Laundry Love Bundle from Scentsy for $50. James, my husband, loved the scent Luna so well, that he started doing all of the laundry!

Winner Winner

James loved the scent and Scentsy products and I loved not having to do the laundry anymore. So it was a win-win for both of us.

So coming from a complete sceptic, you have to buy Scentsy’s Laundry Love bundle. What do you use for your laundry? What is your favorite scent?

Project Home: DIY DVD Storage Part One

The problem of storage arose when we first moved into the new house. There is no storage for anything and no room to build extra storage. We are avid DVD collectors and have well over 700 movies at this very moment. Our cats like to knock the DVDs off of the entertainment center and any open shelves. We’ve tried everything.

Again this is one of the pet struggles we encounter on a daily basis.
We all know that cats love to climb and knock whatever they can over, just to be a pain. It’s almost as if they find humor in it.

We have a huge problem with storage, no doubt. There are too many DVDs to put on a shelf. They fall over easy on their own, let alone with nine furry felines running around banging into things. They are fun to have, but a huge burden also. And I do mean the DVDs, not the kitties.

James, my husband, decided one day that he was going to hang tubs on the wall to fix the DVD storage issue. I wasn’t keen on the idea of having tubs screwed to the wall because frankly they are an eyesore.

I like the idea of having room to grow. As we are remodeling these will eventually not be here on the wall, so for now he has hung them so we can organize the DVDs and keep the cats from knocking them off an open shelf.

While James was working on hanging these huge tubs Max decided he was going to help. “Let’s explore Daddy’s tool bags” says Max.

Max in Daddy's Tools
Max in Daddy’s Tools

This is the fun of living with the nine cats. Overall I still think this is cute behavior. I know you guys are probably thinking, why do we put up with this behavior. Well, quite honestly, It’s because all of the behavior is normal for cats. If you are a cat owner you understand completely what I mean.

Anyways, before I get too of track here, James finished hanging the tubs and this is what they look like currently. They are ugly.

DIY DVD Storage

I already know how to fix them. Look for the next post in a few days after I make them look more presentable. So until next time, love your babies and hold them tight because some day they will be gone.
